One of the most popular immigration pathways for Canada is the Atlantic Immigration Pilot program. The AIPP is a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers and international graduates who want to work and live in one of Canada’s four Atlantic Provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island.
This is an employer-driven program designed to help employers in Atlantic Canada hire qualified candidates for jobs they have been unable to fill locally. Aside from fulfilling a gap in the labor force, the AIPP will be able to boost the province’s economy by increased spending due to the population growth. Designated employers do not need an LMIA in order to hire foreign nationals under this program.
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is comprised of three categories: one for international graduates of a publicly funded institution in Atlantic Canada and two for skilled workers:
- Atlantic International Graduate Program (AIGP) – studied a 2-year program at the minimum
- Atlantic High-Skilled Program (AHSP) – with a job offer of NOC Skill Type/Level 0, A, or B
- Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program (AISP) – with a job offer of NOC Skill Type/Level 0, A, B or C
In order to immigrate to Canada through this pathway, the first step is to secure a job offer from a designated employer from either of the four provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island), after which we will review if you will be eligible for the AHSP or the AISP categories. Other eligibility factors for consideration include: work experience (except for the AIGP), job offer, language (minimum CLB 4 in English or French), work experience and proof of funds. Proof of funds is a requirement to show that you have enough funds to settle in either of the four Atlantic provinces as you start your life in Canada.
Proof of funds can be in the form of:
- cash
- documents that show property or capital payable to you (such as stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills, etc.)
- documents that guarantee payment of a set amount of money, which are payable to you (such as bankers’ drafts, cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders)
